Audiology Hearing Testing & Screening in Brighton and Sussex

Hearing Testing

British Society of Audiology (BSA) and Health and Safety Executive (HSE) approved hearing screening. Damage to hearing is often overlooked until it is too late and damage is permanent. Hobbies and interests can also lead to permanent hearing loss motorcycling, motor sports and music if you work in any of these fields you will be aware of increasing control over noise /sound levels but as participant or customer you are not protected be proactive and look after yourself.

A simple hearing test can pick up noise damage or over hearing loss and a referral made to appropriate services can lead to protecting your long term hearing. Short bursts of loud noise can be as damaging to your hearing as prolonged exposure to lower levels of sound. At 85db(A) you must wear hearing protection by law in the work place. Below is a table which shows the equivalent noise exposure at increasing volume as such just under 4 minutes of noise at 106db(A) causes the same damage as 8 hours at 85db(A).

For motorcyclists the damage to hearing can be significant even at slow speeds from what is sometimes refereed to as silent noise (air as it moves over and through the helmet). At 50mph sounds in excess of 90db(A) are common at the legal limit of 70mph sound levels can reach almost 100db(A) and as such would require hearing protection legally if employed if you rode for more than 15 minutes per/day.
